Higher Education Reauthorization Act
The Entertainment industry added an amendment to the Higher Education Reauthorization Act that would require universities to block p2p file sharing or lose funding.

second-hand CD sale
The article here is about the re-sale of Promo CDs and the First Sale issues involved, where the waters get muddied very quickly.
What I found fascinating, however, was the second paragraph about new “pawn shop” laws requiring a permit, then the store must thumb-print used-CD sellers, and get a copy of the seller’s driver’s license. The store can only issue store credit and must hold the merchandise for 30 days prior to re-selling.
Somehow I’d missed that, and it explains the local disappearance of the small mom-and-pop used-CD and game re-sellers in my area.
Also see the ars technica article about it.
missing Conference
Unfortunately, I have to miss the IPSC again this year!
But many of the papers and presentations are available on the site.
Current trends appear to be: copyright misuse is big, so is trademark use, and a number of papers comparing copyright and patent and arguing that they should borrow from one another.
