British Copyright "Investigators" actually Sales People

An interesting story about the UK’s PRS For Music can be found at TechDirt.

Several interesting examples of abuse including; demanding a woman running a stable buy a license because she plays music to her horses; demanding auto mechanics and police stations buy a license because employees were listening to music (in private areas) loud enough that it could be heard in public rooms; demanding that a children’s charity buy a license for singing Christmas carols; calling small businesses, and if music is heard in the background, demanding they buy a license.

So why these abuses? Apparently because the copyright “investigators” have revenue targets and can earn a bonus for bringing in more money than their targeted goal.
